In addition to the Bastyr University Seal, we have added a lettermark to use for more informal usage. Learn more below.
Seal
Usage
The Bastyr University seal is for formal use only, to be used by President’s Office and official documents. It is our formal business emblem and is limited to official correspondence, such as:
- Correspondences from the Office of the President
- Diplomas and Certificates
- Admissions acceptance letters
- Printed materials such as letterheads, envelopes and business cards
- Legal and official records binding the University
- Transcripts
The Bastyr University seal should be surrounded by a minimum area of clearance. This area of isolation ensures that headlines, text or other visual elements do not encroach on the seal.
Use the seal itself as the base measurement for the amount of clear space between another element and the seal. Half of the seal is the minimum permitted isolation area and must never be reduced. The clear space should be increased wherever possible. The recommended clear space is a full size representation of the seal.
Efforts should be taken to ensure that all printed and digital
applications of the seal are legible. The instant recognition of the Bastyr University seal is a constant goal, therefore it should never be reproduced at such a size that it becomes illegible.
It is possible to use the seal reversed out on a color background (negative version); the color of the background must however ensure good contrast and legibility. A white seal with cranberry or charcoal backgrounds are acceptable negative versions.
Incorrect usage of the Bastyr University seal reduces the consistency of the brand. The seal should never be distorted or altered. Below are some examples of improper use of the seal.
Lettermark
Usage
New to the Bastyr University design family, our goal for the lettermark is to replace most uses of the formal seal. Easy to read and recognize in small sizes, the lettermark will eventually be found in many admissions marketing materials, classroom settings and swag, Use the lettermark for more routine applications, such as:
- Faculty/Classroom Powerpoints
- Fliers for a campus event
- Social Media posts
- Printed materials such as postcards, admissions brochures and event signage
- Digital advertising
- Swag, including mugs, t-shirts and pens
Use the Lettermark alongside the University Logo. Lettermark should never stand alone without one version of the Bastyr University Logo.
Use the “BU” lettermark as the base measurement for the amount of clear space between another element and the lettermark logo. Half of the lettermark is the minimum clear space referred to as a “BU” length. The recommended space is two “BU” lengths.
Efforts should be taken to ensure that all printed and digital
applications of the logo are legible.
